During 7-9 July 2016, Royal Forest Department, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) and Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Public Company Limited organized the workshop on “CLMTV Forest Partnership Dialogue” at Centara Hoel Convention Center, Udonthani.
In this regards, General Surasak Kanchanarat, Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment had delivered an opening remarks, additionally, Dr. Kasemsun Chinnavaso, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and Mr. Chayawut Jarntorn, Udon Thani Provincial Governor had delivered welcoming speeches to delegates from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam as well.
The objectives of the workshop are as follows;
1.To enhance cooperation and understanding among CLMTV countries through participatory processes in forest conservation and increasing forest areas in order to mitigate climate change impacts.
2.To exchange knowledge and experiences in sustainable forest management
3.To strengthen the network of forest conservation among the CLMTV countries, as well as capacity building in relation to the forest management and climate change
The workshop received a positive feedback from CLMTV countries and it is a beginning of our cooperation to conserve the ASEAN forests which will continue to absorb GHGs and serve to protect the adverse effects of climate change.
For CITC, Dr. Jakkanit Kananurak, Director of CITC had presented a possible collaboration on the capacity development activities among CLMTV countries regarding forestry and climate change. Dr. Natarika Wayuparb Nitiphon, Deputy Executive Director of TGO also mentioned that “CLMTV countries agreed that it is necessary to implement capacity development activities to understand on the climate change issues and this is a role of CITC to contribute to this activity”.
